2012 - For the past few weeks, ABORIGINAL SOUNDS was out of
commissionbut we are working hard at bringing it back with some
fantastic new music from some amazing indigenous recording artists.
This edition features brand new music
and exclusive interviews with such American Indian recording artists
and entrepreneurs as JANA MASHONEE (Lumbee), FRANK WALN (Rosebud
Sioux) of the hip hop band NAKE NULA WAUN and NAMMY -winning flute
player CODY BLACKBIRD (Eastern Band Cherokee/Dakota).
Kicking off this new show is the soulful sound of JANA MASHONEE who was recently awarded the 2012 ROCKWIRED RADIO MUSIC AWARD for BEST FEMALE ARTIST. The interview for this show was conducted a whole week before the announcement and presentation of the award so we were interviewing her while trying not to giggle. In the interview MASHONEE discusses the inspiration behind her latest single STAY WITH ME BABY. Given MASHONEE's industrious spirit and amazing presence, it is little wonder that she has set her sights on acting. She is set to star in the film RAPTOR RANCH. In the spring of 2011, JANA kicked off the premiere edition of ABORIGINAL SOUNDS and this year she is doing so again with the shows relaunch. How is that for things coming full circle. In 2011they scored the prestigious NAMMY Award for FRANK's work behind the mixing board and became ROCKWIRED.COM's ARTiST OF THE MONTH FOR TWO MONTH – a feat never before accomplished in the history of the ARTIST OF THE MONTH CAMPAIGN and kicked of the year by winning the 2012 ROCKWIRED RADIO MUSIC AWARD for BEST BAND. CODY BLACKBIRD has had quite the musical career for a man of only 22 years of age. With four full length recordings behind him a tour mileage like you wouldn't believe he was awarded the 2011 NAMMY Award for BEST NATIVE FLUTE PLAYER. In the interview BLACKBIRD discusses his new release, life on the road, working with FRANK WALN of NAKE NULA WAUN on their new single 'HEAR MY CRY' and entertaining the possibility of spreading his musical wings beyond the confines of traditional music. FREE FORM RADIO. As
program producer for ROCKWiRED.COM, LUSH is hands-on when it
comes to
interviewing and building a lasting rapport with the artists that come
ROCKWiRED's
way. As a youngster, BRIAN LUSH had no idea what kind of seed was being
planted
by reading magazines such as HIT PARADE, HIGH TIMES, SPIN, REQUEST
(remember
that one?) and even ROLLING STONE. "Those were the days before the
internet and being a rock journalist
looked
like the coolest job imaginable." says LUSH "But reading these
magazines had me
imagining that one day I'd be the artist giving all of the clever
answers to
some poor guy with a tape recorder. Well, life has a way of surprising
you.
