ROCKWiRED RADiO PROFiLES
PRESENTS:
THE COMPELLiNG iNSTRUMENTAL SOUND OF CHARLiE HiLL AND HiS DEBUT CD THE LANDiNG MAY 2, 2012
- In a special section of CHARLIE HILL’s website , the
guitarist includes a wistful reminiscence of one of the most magical
moments of his teenage years: meeting and hanging out briefly with his
hero, JIMI HENDRIX, at the airport when the legend stopped for a gig in
Hill’s hometown of Tulsa. Forty two years later, Hill is not only still
playing the guitar but, after many years of mastering his craft,
releasing the independent debut album THE LANDING—a title that reflects
the arrival of an exciting new voice in the world of contemporary
instrumental music.Though he will always love rock and roll, Hill’s
influences on this compelling nine track collection are actually far
from the HENDRIX realm. Having played acoustic fingerstyle guitar since
the 70s—when he was inspired by acoustic guitar playing rock legends
like STEPHEN STILLS and JAMES TAYLOR--Hill carries on in the tradition
of another set of heroes and influences who set the standard in the
fingerstyle genre, from the late MICHAEL HEDGES, LEO KOTTKE and WILLIS
ALAN RAMSEY to PRESTON REED, BILLY MCLAUGHLIN and MARTIN SIMPSON.
Recorded at his home studio in Tulsa and mixed and mastered at Home of
Tone by Steve Thornbrugh, the collection includes seven acoustic
instrumentals (played on the Taylor 714 or Taylor 914), another played
on harp guitar (“LOVE LETTERS FROM ARABIA”) and the tender vocal ballad
“SIMPLE SONG.” The result is a masterful mix that artfully blurs the
boundaries of acoustic, folk and new age music.RELATED LiNKS: WWW.CHARLIEHILLGUITAR.COM ABOUT THE HOST: CONTACT
