ROCKWiRED RADiO PROFiLES PRESENTS:
THE SOULFUL SOUND OF DEREK STROKER AND HiS BRAND NEW RELEASE 'LOVE & COLOUR' JUNE
18, 2012 -DEREK STROKER may have
recently returned to Orlando after five years in
Nashville, but the heart of Music City is beating strongly throughout
his latest full length album LOVE
& COLOUR – a
powerful 11-track set of soul-infused pop/rock that blends a timeless
old school sensibility with a contemporary flair and a unique
perspective on the ups and downs of love in the modern world. Drawing
from a classic well of inspirations ranging from ERIC CLAPTON and THE
BEATLES to AL GREEN, DONNY HATHAWAY and modern greats JAMES MORRISON,
MARC BROUSSARD and GAVIN DEGRAW. STROKER creates honest, straight
from the heart music that takes the listener on what he calls “a
journey of real love, with songs about the good times as well as the
hard times. It’s
not about ‘Hollywood Love,’ where everything is always perfect,”
STROKER says. “Within relationships and love there is always
struggle. But in the end, true love always wins out. I feel that this
new record and musical direction is a natural progression for me as
an artist. I’ve always loved the authenticity that old soul records
could communicate, and this was a major driving force when I started
recording ‘LOVE & COLOUR’.Since
his last release, the 7 song EP RISE AND SHINE (2008), STROKER—whose early
recordings were penned solely by him--immersed
himself in the thriving community of Nashville based songwriters and
expanded his horizons by collaborating on so many new songs that he
had to pare down from close to 80 tunes to create the perfect set
list for LOVE
& COLOUR. As he
developed and expanded his vision as a songwriter, the multi-talented
performer began touring throughout Tennessee and Georgia and became a
popular live performer in Nashville via shows at venues like 3rd
and Lindsley, 12th
and Porter, The Rutledge LMV and the Hard Rock – plus a sold out
show at the renowned Exit/In sponsored by his favorite radio station
Lightning 100. He recorded the new album there over the course of a
year and several studios, including THE RECORD SHOP, THE BROWN OWL and
INVERTIGO PRODUCTIONS, the home base of his producer STEPHEN
GAUSE.
