2007 WINNERS FOR BEST BAND AND BEST ALBUM

(Orange, CA) The polling has begun for the 2008 ROCKWIRED AWARDS. The polls will be open until February 22, 2008 and the winners will be announced on a special edition of ROCKWIRED LIVE, Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 5:00PM (PST) on www.ktstfm.com. The year 2007 will go down in our history as the year that rock music came back to the forefront at ROCKWIRED and the tone was set when we kicked off the year with a band out of Vancouver, B.C. called KING KARMA (who are up for three ROCKWIRED AWARDS for BEST BAND, BEST ALBUM 'KING KARMA', and BEST SONG 'DEVIL'S ROAD'). Where KING KARMA was a celebration of good old-fashioned balls-to-the-wall hard rock, Orange County's THE APPEARANCE (nominated for BEST BAND and BEST ALBUM 'LOST IN AURORA') were a thin slice of modern rock heaven.

ZAK DANIELS AND THE ONE-EYED SNAKES and hair metal veterans SHARK ISLAND (both nominees for BEST BAND) were further proof that no-nonsense , good time rock n roll was definitely 'the' sound for ROCKWIRED in 2007, however there was a lot of earnestness in the music as well. KING KARMA may have kicked the door down for 2007, singer-songwriter VANESSA VAN SPALL (nominated for BEST FEMALE ARTIST, BEST ALBUM 'COTTON-POLY BLEND', and BEST SONG 'PALM OF YOUR HAND') quietly knocked on the door to see if anyone was home. DEAD ROCK WEST (nominatred for BEST BAND, BEST ALBUM, 'HONEY AND SALT', and BEST SONG 'HIGHWAY ONE') served up Southern Californina alt-country with a touch of power pop to keep things interesting, while OLAV LARSEN (Nominated for BEST MALE ARTIST, and BEST ALBUM 'LOVE'S COME TO TOWN') kept things firmly rooted in Americana (despite being from Norway).

Electro-funk artist SAM SPARRO (nominated for BEST MALE ARTIST, and BEST SONG 'BLACK AND GOLD') stands out in a crowd of raucous rockers and gentile roots rockers with his unique brand of electronic soul. Rounding out the nominees for BEST FEMALE ARTIST are teh effervescent pop rocker SHEILA SWIFT, the dark angel SHAUNA BURNS (a two-time nominee for this category), JULIA FREE, and BRITTNEY ELIZABETH. The nominees for BEST MALE ARTIST include Swedish-born blues guitarist ANDY WALO, R.E.M. producer MITCH EASTER, and jazz crooner, SACHAL VASANDANI. A special mention should be given to roots-rocker KAZ MURPHY for his nomination for BEST SONG for the powerful anti-war song 'KILLIN' WHEEL'.
