AND THE NOMiNEES ARE:
In combining the cold, distant, ambient sound of electronica with the gritty sound of rock an roll, LAWRENCE STONE of VTG has forged a sound that could serve as the soundtrack to a million relationships gone sour. The addition of a rock sensibility to VTG's electronic pulse is a recent shift in the band's sound and it has been ushered in with the release of their latest EP 'LOVE IS LETTING GO'. With just six songs, VTG demonstrate both musical and technological prowess while songwriter STONE surveys the wreckage and disaster left behind after the dissolution of a relationship that was doomed from the start with such thumping numbers as 'I SLEEP PRETTY', 'SHE KILLS ME' and 'INFECTION'.
People coming together and people coming apart was a theme brilliantly explored in MOBY's 2002 hit WE ARE ALL MADE OF STARS but the Los Angeles-based duo FRIEND SLASH LOVER build an entire six-song EP around that very theme with stunning results. AS AMERICAN AS ONES AND ZEROES is the debut release from singer/songwriter/bassist JOSH MINTZ and guitarist FRANK DAY but the duo's technological and musical prowess coupled with MINTZ's space-aged songcraft can easily give listeners that impression that FRIEND SLASH LOVER has done this sort of thing before and that more can be expected from them in the years to come.

There is a lyric from a song in THE SOUND OF MUSIC which suggested that the beginning was a very good place to start. This is indeed true of the Los Angeles-based goth-rock band LE REVERIE who have just released their three-song debut EP 'TRUTH AND LIES' with a little help from legendary rock producer RON NEVISON (THE WHO, HEART, LED ZEPPELIN and KISS). While production cred from a heavy-hitter is always going to look great on a band's press kit, one mustn't overlook the fact that LE REVERIE (fronted by singer ALLIE JORGEN) brings tremendous musicality and songcraft to the table. Three songs may seem a bit paltry but the band's musical scope and JORGEN's rocket fueled vocals make TRUTH AND LIES a listen to get lost in.
DHANA TAPROGGE picked an interesting time to adapt a musical alter-ego. The TAXI DOLL front woman is testing the waters of a solo career with the release of her forthcoming debut EP 'CONFESSIONS OF LILY ROGUE' (due on November 11, 2010). Given her band's penchant for issuing the most mesmerizing dance rock this side of DEBORAH HARRY, fans may be expecting 'LOVE ANGEL MUSIC BABY' times twelve but those fans are going to have to turn their pacemakers down just a notch. Instead, '...LILY ROGUE' is an excercise in lyrical reflection and dark introspection which isnt to say that DHANA has done away with that "...Here kittie, kittie!" delivery that made TAXI DOLL such a hoot.
5. JUSTiN FOUTZ - 'JUSTiN FOUTZ'
Since the launch of our show, the one genre that we've neglected to showcase thus far has been Country and we couldn't have found a better artist than singer-songwriter JUSTIN FOUTZ to get all country-fied with. Despite being labeled a country artist and having recently been nominated for BEST COUNTRY ARTIST by the prestigious LOS ANGELES MUSIC AWARDS, FOUTZ's brand of country music rocks! For his self-titled sophomore release, the Los Angeles-based FOUTZ ventured to the music capitol of NASHVILLE to lay the foundation for a batch of songs that analyze the joy, the heartache and the humor in life and results of his work in Music City USA has resulted in an album that's not about to get lost in that country music shuffle dominated by the likes of CHESNEY or MACGRAW.

6. CiRCLEDOWN - 'MOBiUS'
There is something to be said about the tenacity of the Atlantic City-based rap-metal band CIRCLEDOWN. It all started as an idea between lead singer DIODE (DREW MADORE) and bassist CANSH (KEVIN CANSIAN) after attending a HENRY ROLLINS concert. After that fateful evening, the two never looked back. Despite the lineup changes that have occured over the years, CIRCLEDOWN's mission of combining skull-crushing heavy metal with rap and electronic flourishes was a mission uninterrupted. Now the boys from Jersey are on the verge of releasing their forthcoming album MOBIUS and the results are amazing. CIRCLEDOWN has shrugged off the years bad starts and are simply going for it full throttle with both bravado and grit to spare.
7. SACRED 13 - 'JAGGED REGRETS'
The Eerie, Pennsylvania-based band SACRED 13 have been honing their gritty metal sound for years and have tested the results successfully with two albums - REMENANCE (2008) and TATTERED MEMORIES (2009). It is safe to say that three is definitely the charm as SACRED 13 release their latest album 'JAGGED REGRETS'. Not only does the potent mix of guitarist JOSHUA KARICKOFF's heavy riffs, GUS WARD's slamming bass and SAM EDWARDS' thunderous drum work deliver the necessary rock n roll punch that makes a rock album stand out in today's market. With JAGGED REGRETS, the power trio prove themselves to be serviceable songwriters with weighty, diaristic materialthat goes deeper than the metal genre can often accomodate.
