DECEMBER 5,
2017 is
that rare artist in the realm of electronic music that boasts the very
earnestness and spark of artists such as KATE BUSH, MADONNA
and SINEAD O'CONNOR. On eM's official facebook page she lists these
artists as influences and you can hear it in her signature hypnotic
style. Having sung since the age of six, this chanteuse form Melbourne
Australia has applied her voice to such musical endeavors as choirs,
rock bands, acoustic duos and working with djs. Her voice can do
anything but int he past few years, the pulsating sounds of electronica
are where she is most comfortable these days. Already, she has given us
something to look forward to in the coming year with her forthcoming EP
SOMEBODY SOMETIMES. THe roll our is planned for January 11th and eM is
confident in the material she will be presenting. "I feel I am a unique
artist and with each release I evolve, better and
bolder." says eM "I love getting feedback good or bad. I'm not out to
please
people but if they love a track, I am happy! This EP flows really well
from start to finish, I am hoping people pick up on that." Preceding
the release is the haunting A WORLD OF POSSIBLE and it's
simple-yet-striking video.
ROCKWIRED had a chance to Correspond with eM via email regarding her new video and the roll our for her upcoming EP SOMEBODY SOMETIMES. We would have conducted the interview via phone, but eM was nervous about an electrical storm that was moving in. Here are her answers to our questions. A WORLD OF IMPOSSIBLE is the first cut from your
soon to be released EP SOMEBODY SOMETIMES. Why was this song earmarked
as the first single?
This song was
written years ago with JEROME ZAMBINO producing the music. We decided
this would be a good intro to the whole EP. JEROME has also remixed the
featured track SOMEBODY.
CHECK OUT THE MUSiC ViDEO FOR A WORLD OF iMPOSSiBLE!!! The
music video for A WORLD OF IMPOSSIBLE is simple yet very effective.
Almost as If you caught it on you phone. Explain why decided to use
this footage for the music video.
I
shot the footage on a hd camera on a bullet train from Kyoto to Tokyo.
The rain was falling on the window but as the train was so fast it
danced horizontally. Slowed down it really suits the mood of the song.
SOMEBODY
SOMETIMES is the new EP that will be on it's way. Talk about how it
feels to be so close tho having the thing finally released and out
there for people to hear.
This EP has taken me over 18 months to complete. Life has gotten in the way and I have had a lot of glitches and delays with the production. I finished the two main tracks SOMEBODY and SOMETIMES in a professional studio to achieve the quality I am striving for. I am relieved but at the same time proud. Producing is a never ending learning curve. ![]() I asked UK dj/label owner SIMON HUXTABLE and French dj/producer JEROME ZAMBINO to remix the featured track. Both have remixed my songs before and I like what they do. SIMON tends to produce fat breaks and JEROME can produce progressive to house and with this, he remixed it to a more down tempo version. What
themes have inspired the songs on this upcoming EP?
The featured track SOMEBODY was actually written when I was 18. Very dark song, its about someone being killed. I originally released it years ago in a breakbeat duo FUTUREPROOF. But it missed the guitar I heard in it so I contacted a guy I went to school with, STEVE HENDERSON and he nailed exactly what I was looking for. 'Sometimes' was originally produced as a trance track with UK dj/producer MARTIN CRAIG aka CYGNUS X-1 aka CURTIS & CRAIG. We never released it so I remixed it as a more progressive house style. Are
there any songs off of the upcoming EP that have you particularly
excited to get people to hear and why?
I'm excited by all of them. They are all different in style. Your
music has always lent itself well to visual accompaniment. Any plans
for future music videos?
I love doing videos. It's another level up to telling a story. I am planning to do a video for the featured track, its about domestic violence but am thinking of turning into like a mini doco. Whats
the big idea behind SOMEBODY SOMETIMES? What would you like for people
to come away with after they've listened to it?
I feel I am a unique artist and with each release I evolve, better and bolder. I love getting feedback good or bad. I'm not out to please people but if they love a track, I am happy! This EP flows really well from start to finish, I am hoping people pick up on that. I am already working on this next EP NOTHING VENTURED, NOTHING GAINED. I will be going into the studio within a couple of months to finish the first two tracks. Again this is another step for me production wise. ![]() CONTACT
