With the polling for the 2008 ROCKWIRED AWARDS completed, ROCKWIRED.COM is now focusing its energies on showcasing a new exciting roster of artists for the coming year. Some of the names are new, some are familiar, but one can be assured that 2008 is going to a very interesting year for ROCKWIRED."It feels like the year 2008 has finally kicked off for ROCKWIRED." says ROCKWIRED founder BRIAN LUSH, in regard to the delay in getting a line-up schedule for ROCKWIRED for 2008. "I always want to wait and listen to everything (music) that comes our way. I think it's important to get a good set of artists that are completely different, yet in a way, complimentary of each other, no matter how diverse the styles of music get." This years music is indeed diverse, ranging from garage rock, traditional french popular music, modern blues, rap-rock, hard rock, americana, and alt-country. "There's something here for everybody." says LUSH "Where 2007 reminded everyone that ROCKWIRED was predominantly a rock show, 2008 is proving to be a year where anything is possble." That is certainly the case with this years line up. French chanteuse JILL AIGROT has released her debut CD WORDS OF LOVE on the LML MUSIC label. The album is a collection of AIGROT's interpretations of the time-honored songbook of the legendary EDITH PIAF. If you happened to see the GOLDEN GLOBE - nominated film LA VIE EN ROSE, you will note that it was AIGROT who provided the singing voice for MARION COTILLARD's outstanding portrayal of PIAF. Australian rock band BABY ANIMALS is back after a twelve year hiatus during which lead singer SUZE DEMARCHI raised two children with husband NUNO BETTENCOURT (of EXTREME). In the early nineties, the BABY ANIMALS was known for their blistering sets, raunchy power chords, and the smokey rock vocals of it's smoking hot lead singer. Now, the BABY ANIMALS have turned the volume down and released a most-curious comeback album entitled IL GRANDE SILENZIO from LIBERATION RECORDS - where standout tracks from the BABY ANIMALS catalogue is given the acoustic treatment. And now, for ROCKWIRED's unofficial favorite band!!! NEVERWONDER sans JOY PEARSON, are putting the finishing touches on the follow up to their self-titled ROCKWIRED AWARD-winning debut album. NEVERWONDER has recruitted MEGAN BOBO to the rank of lead singer, giving the bands guitar-driven approach a more soulful sound (think NONA HENDRYX). Rap-Rock has never been presented to ROCKWIRED before, so the fellas from ALL CRAZY are going to be the first. Based out of Philadelphia, ALL CRAZY have released their CD SEX DRUGS & HIP-ROCK. This kick-ass release combines, rap lyrics, the funkiest bass lines, guitars and get this - violin melodies. You've got to hear to be blown by it. PINK MARTINI vocalist CHINA FORBES strikes out on her own with the release of her solo debut '78 on HEINZ RECORDS. Fans of PINK MARTINI will be pleasantly surprised as FORBES moves from the jazz sound of that band to a more singer-songwriter rock sound in the vain of CARLY SIMON or AIMEE MANN. ROCKWIRED has developed a very interesting relationship with the landmass of Australia. First there was POWDERFINGER, then SAM SPARRO. In securing an interview with SUZE DEMARCHI of the BABY ANIMALS, ROCKWIRED learned of another band called MINK. This aussie band (fronted by New York vocalist NEAL CARLSON) has just released their self-titled debut and they are defintely the most raucous garage pop-rock band to ever come to ROCKWIRED. We can't wait for you to hear it. Pop singer ELLEE VEN has made a name for herself in Southern California with her distinctive brand of electro-pop that she calls 'GROOVETONICS' which is showcased in full on her latest CD 'YOUCANBUYME'. ELLEE VEN was the winner of the SOUTHBAY MUSIC AWARD for BEST VIDEO for the title track of her current release. THE BRAKES are another band out of the City of Brotherly Love, but unlike the Rap-Rock approach of ALL CRAZY, this band of young whipper snappers (the oldest member is 23) are practitioners of American Rock. They are on the verge of releasing their album TALE OF TWO CITIES on HYENA RECORDS. Rounding out what's coming to ROCKWIRED are some familiar faces. SHAUNA BURNS, a two-time ROCKWIRED AWARD nominee is set to return witht eh release of her latest release THE MOON AND THE FIRE CIRCLE from RED ROCK MUSIC. XIREN, one of the first artists to be showcased on ROCKWIRED is expected to release his forthcoming album in April of 2008. Later this year, he will be touring in India. "I hope people enjoy what they hear this year." says LUSH. "I think this time around we've hit our stride." |
