GLOOMY-GUS TROUBADOURS, A GRITTY GLAM ROCK BAND, ZOOT-SUIT RIOTERS, A SQUEAKY CLEAN UK POP SINGER AND A JAZZ BIRD FIND THEIR WAY TO ROCKWIRED. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (ORANGE, CA) With the list of upcoming shows growing smaller and smaller, ROCKWIRED is announcing a new roster of artists that are set to fill ROCKWIRED's play schedule up until the end of June 2008. As one can expect from ROCKWIRED, the list is quite diverse. The first of this new set of artists coming to ROCKWIRED.COM and ROCKWIRED LIVE is a band based out of L.A. called EVIL MARIA. Fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist EVREN GOKNAR, EVIL MARIA (nicked from the 1927 FRITZ LANG film METROPOLIS) is a garage rock trio with a 60's vibe that is due in no small part to the presence of that good ol' farfisa sound on some of their debut CD's gritty tracks. Try to imagine ELVIS COSTELLO AND THE ATTRACTIONS after a few JAGERMEISTERS and a pack of LUCKY STRIKES. Kicking things up a few notches is a band out of New York, N.Y. called FIXER who have just released their debut CD 'BEFORE THE SUN' on RIKER HILL RECORDS. This album serves up rock n' roll in a way that it just ain't done anymore; with cheekiness and attitiude and not a lot of prescribed anger (a'la anything released through INTERSCOPE RECORDS). FIXER, fronted by EVAN R. SAFFER, the most charismatic lead singer since DAVID LEE ROTH or early STEVE TYLER, have already been introduced to millions via MTV's top-rated hit series, THE HILLS. COLLIN HERRING proved to be an illusive interviewee for ROCKWIRED in the previous months. This Texas-based singer/songwriter released his third LP 'PAST LIFE CRASHING' to ecstatic press. ROCKWIRED was initially unsuccessful in pinning down an interview with the soft-spoken alt-country gent, due to the fact that he was busy in the studio with his next album and having the time of his life doing so. Clearly, the demons that plagued him in th making of PAST LIFE CRASHING had been exorcised with that achingly beautiful CD of his. Where would ROCKWIRED be without the 'comeback' act. Earlier this year we welcomed back the Aussie rockers THE BABY ANIMALS, and last year we showcased L.A. glam-metal veterans, SHARK ISLAND. THE CHERRY POPPIN' DADDIES had a hit in 1998 with ZOOT SUIT RIOT and rode the wave of the swing sound that was made popular once again by BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA and THE SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS. Unfortunately, it's hard to remember a pop music scene that wasn't littered with tarts, boy bands, rap-metal and bling, but THE CHERRY POPPIN DADDIES are a pleasant reminder of what pop music is capable of without all of that other shit. Ten years after ZOOT SUIT RIOT, the band is prepared to release their new CD 'SUSQUEHANNA' on SPACE AGE BACHELOR PAD RECORDS. Just when you think that things are getting a little too rock-oriented or a little too bucolic with the alt-country, ROCKWIRED has a tendency to throw in a little jazz. SAMMIE ROBERTS is the first jazz saxophonist to come to ROCKWIRED, and he has done so with a rather fine five-song E.P. entitled "MY VOICE...LIVING THE DREAM". Television and film actress SUSAN KREBS (THE WEST WING, ER, MILLION DOLLAR BABY), with some assistance from the SOARING SEXTET, has released the CD 'JAZZ AVIARY' - a collection of pop and jazz standards that is truly for the birds. Literally! “I remember as a kid, lying stretched out in a hammock between two grand sycamores, watching the birds, listening to the birds - digging the birds! Birds and humans have shared this planet for many millennia. Our impulse to sing and our desire to fly reflect this deep and ancient connection with the avian tribe." said KREBS to ALLABOUTJAZZ.COM, "The eloquent biologist, E.O. Wilson, writes that the preservation of the world lies in understanding and appreciating the wonder and awe that nature arouses. With Jazz Aviary - a concert of musical ornithology, spoken word and birdsong - I want to express the wonder and awe specifically that birds arouse." KRIS SEARLE is something of a phenomenon here at ROCKWIRED. It's not often that we are presented with a rather earnest pop artist, but now we have one in this U.K. crooner who is on the verge of releasing his forthcomng CD 'SLOWLY DIABOLICAL'. After years of struggle, SEARLE has taken his music and his life into his own hands and is making it happen. The excerpts from his forthcoming CD have captured our attention and ROCKWIRED is anxious to have everyone hear the music and get to know KRIS SEARLE for the charming artist that he is. Of course, ROCKWIRED can't stray too far from the grittier singer-songwriters for too long. JEFFERY HALFORD AND THE HEALERS have released the CD 'BROKEN CHORD' and this collection of raw, unflinching tunes speaks to the challenges of today's world such as, the hardships of the the survivors of Hurricane Katrina and the plight of Native Americans. HALFORD's got that heartland rock thing down cold, much like the best of JOHN MELLENCAMP's work. ROCKWIRED LIVE is a 30-minute weekly internet radio show that airs every Saturday at 5:00PM (PST) through WWW.KTSTFM.COM. However, it is encouraged that listeners go to ROCKWIRED.COM and simply click on the KTSTFM banner at the left hand side of every page of the website. EVIL MARIA - MAY 3,
