AUGUST 5, 2011 - Since 2010, singer,guitarist and one half of the electronic rock duo THE REDS - RICK SHAFFER has thrown himself into a couple of solo recordings that run the gamut of neo sixties garage rock with the occassional excursion into R.L. BURNSIDE-styled territory. Hovering on top of this sound is SHAFFER's haunting vocals - an oil and water mixture of IGGY POP and VELVET UNDERGROUND-era LOU REED. The first of these recordings - 2010's NECESSARY ILLUSION - boasted a raw swirl of distorted guitar, atmospheric percussion and stark droning hill country blues. His latest release HIDDEN CHARMS expands on the template established by NECESSARY ILLUSION with steady hypnotic beats and percussion and intensely personal lyrical content.

Well, life has a way of surprising you. Now, I'm the poor guy with the tape recorder and asking all of the questions."
