PRESENTS AN EXCLUSiVE iNTERViEW WiTH MAXi WiLD
AND CUTS FROM HER EP WHO THE FUCK iS MAXi WiLD? AND A CUT FROM HER FORTHCOMiNG RELEASE
Who says that an icy synthesizer sound doesn't  rock as hard as your  average guitar riff? Back in 2012 MAXI WILD  made presence known with the release of her debut EP  WHO THE FUCK IS MAXI WILD? which contained such delightfully stomping releases as TALK 2 LOUD and WRONG SIDE. When I spoke with MAXI over the phone she was recovering from abdominal surgery  and talking excitedly about her forthcoming album  which will take the electro feel of WHO THE FUCK IS MAXI WILD? and give the proceedings a raw, live feel with the assist of bassist  SEAN GONE and drummer DAN KUJAT. In this edition of ROCKWIRED RADIO PROFILES you'll hear a sneak peak at what folks can expect from this forthcoming release.  While the track FAITH is only a demo is will no doubt wet the appetite for more form this vivacious talent.

The following interview appears in the latest edition of ROCKWIRED MAGAZINE. Some corrections in spelling and names have been made.

I hear that you guys are working on new material at the moment. How is all all of that coming along?
It is going really well. Before I went in for my surgery I did some recording. I'm taking a whole different approach to the production aspect of my new work. I want the new music to have more of a live feel because I've got an amazing bass player and drummer that I play with live so I thought that I should use them in the studio. On my last record It was just me in the studio and now I'm trying to capture a live, gritty sound that is still electronic.

Any  idea who you're going to be working with when you get into a studio or is it just going to be you guys?
Just me. I produce the material as well as write and record it. I've worked with JONATHAN SNIPES on the last album. He co-produced that album and mixed it but
this time I think I'm going to give it my best shot getting finished myself and getting it mastered elsewhere. Talk about the guys that you are recording with. My bass player SEAN GONE  has a background in grind and metal and stuff like that. He has a really good sound. He's got a lot of effects and distortion at his disposal and he's just a really tight player. I've found in the past that when I'm writing the parts I don't approach the part as a live player would. Sometimes they are quite difficult yet SEAN manages to pull it off really well. And then there is DAN KUJAT who is my drummer. He has worked with STREET DRUM CORPS and a bunch of other bands before. He is a great drummer. With both of them being live players they can embellish what I already have.

How did music begin for you?
Music has always been a life long passion for me since I was about two or three years old. When I was two or three I made my mom go out and buy this PAUL HARDCASTLE record that was out called 19 and then I started making my own music when I was about nine or ten.

So it was always electronic music that got you going?
I started off listening to a lot of pop music. I was really into BELINDA CARLISLE when I was ten or eleven and then it just kind developed from there. I got into grunge and rock and industrial and then I got into the rave scene when I was fourteen of fifteen and it went form there.

Explain the songwriting process for you. How do you go about it?
That's a good question. I don't have a particular formula. It might come up with a lyrical idea or I might hear something on the radio and become moved by the bassline and then I write a track from that. Sometimes I might just hang out in my studio and I'll just work on a beat and a bassline and a song will come out of that. There are many creative ways that I try to write. Sometimes when I'm in a bit of a writing rut or find that
I'm a little stuck. I try a different approach where I try to write something on the guitar or the piano or something like that.

How long have you been Stateside?
I moved here back in 2006. I came out because I had another job with a band called NOVACANE and that was how I came to land in LA.

One of the songs of yours that I've been listening to is a track called FAITH. Is that one of the tracks that we can expect to hear on the upcoming release?
Yes. That is a track that I'm actually working on right now and soon it will have some live instruments on it as well.

Talk about what inspired that track.
I had the lyrical and melodic chorus idea last year and it just sat in a folder for a while. It was kind of frustrating. I was banging my head against the wall. I couldn't find the right part for it. I didn't know where I was going to take the track and it was frustrating because I knew it had the potential to be a great track. And then I worked on it and just kept scratching away at it and it came to be.

What inspired the song WRONG SIDE?
I started writing that one on the guitar. I was inspired by my upbringing in London. It's kind of tough in the UK. There is a lot of poverty. Unfortunately I grew up more on that side and time were hard and the lyrics were very much inspired by that being sixteen and living in a counsel estate on my own and having to collect unemployment. That was where that song came from.

What about TALK 2 LOUD? That seems to be getting a lot of plays.
It's a great track. I like that one. With TALK 2 LOUD I was trying to write a good pop song. The lyrics weren't particularly inspired by anything.

You say that the band is getting ready for a tour of the west coast in June. How excited are you?
I'm extremely excited. I can't quite imagine doing it right now because I've just had open abdominal surgery. I can't quite picture myself swinging around onstage right now but I'm going to gt there.

And how long is this tour going to last?
I'm not sure, I'm still booking it. We have shows up in San Francisco for Gay Pride. I'm thinking maybe a week or two but we're going to try to go as far up the West Coast as
we possibly can.

And in live shows past what songs have gotten audiences going the most?
TALK 2 LOUD definitely. We usually use that one as our closer. It's been very popular in our live shows.

Once that this CD is out there what would you like for people to come away with after they've heard it?
That's a good question. I tend to make my music quite positive. I try to give people a little bit of hope and inspire them. When I first got into music and decided to make it
my life it was because there was a lot of inspiring stuff out there. I think that is really lacking in music today so I'd like to inspire some kids to start making some good music themselves.
