FEBRUARY

2011 - Rock n roll is full of female pioneers from JANIS
JOPLIN to GRACE SLICK to DEBBIE HARRY to PAT BENATAR but it was SUZI
QUATRO who proved for the very first time that a girl could sport
leather, strap on a bass and let the good times roll. QUATRO's fame
came about in an age when women in "rock" didn't quite rock as much as
they quietly and gently reflected on love and life - I'm talking about
the seventies of course. QUATRO's rock n roll swagger mixed with
legendary songwriter and producer MIKE CHAPMAN's divine pop
sensibility proved a potent mixture that brought QUATRO to the top of
the charts in the UK hit such monster hits as CAN THE CAN, 48 CRASH and
DEVIL GATE. Chart action Stateside would come around until 1980 with
'STUMBLIN IN' (a duet with CHRIS NORMAN) but before that, Americans
knew the leather clad rock chck best as LEATHER TUSCADERO on HAPPY
DAYS. So much credit is given to female guitar slingers such as JOAN
JETT and CHRISSIE HYNDE but it is
important to remember that it was QUATRO and her bad ass bass playing
that kicked the door down in the first place. Nearly forty
years after being discovered by producer MICKIE MOST, QUATRO
has teamed up with MIKE CHAPMAN once again for her forthcoming CD 'IN
THE SPOTLIGHT' where the grand dame of the rock n roll hook
reminds everyone of how real rock n roll is done.
